Book a taxi in Amsterdam and the surrounding area
Here you book a taxi without an account: you see the price before you book, and then you follow your driver live with a link. You book with a taxi company or dispatcher from the network.

From booking to arrival
You book your ride
Fill in your pick-up address, destination and phone number. You can also book a ride for someone else.
A driver takes the ride
The dispatcher assigns the ride to one of their own drivers or an independent driver nearby, who accepts the offer.
You follow the ride live
With your tracking link you see where the driver is. You can share the same link with whoever is waiting for you.
Book now or reserve a taxi for later
It is one form with two options, and you do not need to create an account for either. Choose Now and the ride goes straight to the dispatcher, who picks a driver nearby. Choose Schedule and you give the pick-up time, and the ride is planned in advance.
- Book a taxi now
- Within 4 minutes a driver is assigned to your ride, and within 15 minutes after that they are at your door. If they do not make it, you can cancel for free. You see them approach on the map, so you do not have to call to ask where they are.
- Reserve a taxi in advance
- You give the date and time and the ride is reserved: on your tracking link you see the pick-up time, and as soon as your driver is on their way to you, they appear there on the map. You can do this up to 180 days ahead, so a flight you book today can be covered straight away. Handy for an early flight, an appointment with a fixed start, or a time when few drivers are on the road.
In both cases you see the price before you confirm and you pay in advance, and that amount is then fixed: a diversion or a traffic jam no longer changes it. The difference is in cancelling. You can cancel until you get in. In the first 4 minutes after booking that costs 2.5% of the fare (at least €0.99), after that it is free until your driver is within 15 minutes of you; a ride planned ahead can be cancelled up to 24 hours before pickup for the same starting fee. The full cancellation terms are in the Dutch version of our terms of use. Within 24 hours of pick-up, cancelling costs the full fare, except in the first 10 minutes after booking: then the starting fee applies.

Which car comes for you
When booking you see what your ride costs for each vehicle type, side by side, so you choose on price and space rather than on trust. What you choose determines the amount, not your luggage.

Sedan
Mercedes E-Class or similar
up to 4 people

Van
Mercedes V-Class or similar
up to 8 people

Luxury
Mercedes S-Class or similar
up to 4 people
- Three types, three prices on screen
- From a sedan to a luxury car: you see the amount for each type in the same step, so switching does not cost you a new request.
- Automatically larger from five people
- With five passengers or more than four pieces of luggage your booking becomes a van by itself, so nobody is left standing next to a full boot.
- Luggage costs nothing extra
- Suitcases, a pushchair or sports gear do not change the amount. Only the number of pieces can put you in a larger vehicle.
- Every type has a minimum price
- A very short ride costs that minimum instead of the amount the meter would show.
If your group does not fit in one taxi van, you book several rides side by side, each with its own tracking link. If you would rather have one large vehicle with a single departure time, that is possible too: see our Dutch page on hiring a bus with a driver. Looking for a driver who stays with you for half a day instead of one ride? See a private driver in Amsterdam.
How to tell you are getting into the right taxi
Do not accept a ride from someone who offers you one on the street or in an arrivals hall; Eindhoven Airport, for example, warns about this itself. A ride you book in advance is in the name of a driver who has been checked.
Approved drivers and cars
A driver can only take rides once the platform has approved their application and their car. For every driver we review the driver card, driving licence, insurance and vehicle registration one by one, and a document that is about to expire comes up on our list before its expiry date, with a reminder to the driver.
You know who is coming
As soon as your ride is assigned to a driver, their name, car and number plate are on your tracking link, with their photo if they have one, and once they are on their way to you, you see them approach on the map. If someone else pulls up, do not get in.
Share your ride with someone
The tracking link works without logging in, so you can forward it to whoever is waiting for you. They then see live where you are.
Never ride with someone who approaches you
At stations and at the airport, people walk up to travellers with an offer. An official taxi waits at the taxi rank or comes for your booking, and does not approach you in the terminal.
If something does go wrong, you can report it to the platform; our Dutch page on complaints explains how. What a driver has to submit before they may drive is on our Dutch page about the driver card. For how taxis work in Amsterdam in general, see taxis in Amsterdam.
Frequently asked questions
Is your question not listed? Call +31 85 130 92 78 or send a message on WhatsApp.
Do I need an account or an app to book a taxi?
No. You can book a ride without an account and without installing anything. You fill in your details and your pick-up address; after that you get a link to follow the ride.
How do I track my ride?
You receive a tracking link. With it you see on the map where the driver is and how far away they still are. You do not need to log in for that, and you can forward the link to the person collecting you or waiting for you.
Who drives my ride?
A driver from the taxi company or dispatcher you book with, or an independent driver from the same network. A driver can only take rides once the platform has approved their application and their car.
Can I choose what kind of car I ride in?
When booking you see what the ride costs for each vehicle type, so you choose yourself. From five passengers or more than four pieces of luggage, a larger vehicle is sent automatically. One exception: you cannot book luxury for right now, because those cars are scheduled in advance. If you choose luxury, the form asks for a pick-up time at least 6 hours ahead.
How much luggage can I take in the taxi?
Luggage costs nothing extra and only counts towards the size of the vehicle. With more than four pieces, or from five passengers, your booking automatically becomes a van. If a group does not fit in one van, you book several rides, each with its own tracking link: the form goes up to eight passengers.
How do I know it is safe to get into this taxi?
As soon as your ride is assigned to a driver, their name, car and number plate are on your tracking link, with their photo if they have one, so you know who is coming for you, and once they are on their way to you, you see them approach on the map. For every driver we review the driver card, driving licence, insurance and vehicle registration one by one, and a document that is about to expire comes up on our list before its expiry date, with a reminder to the driver. Never get in with someone who approaches you in an arrivals hall or on the street with an offer.
Who sets the price of my ride?
The taxi company or dispatcher that carries out the ride, with its own rates. WellTransfers is a platform and adds nothing on top of the fare. If you book here, you pay in advance by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or iDEAL, and that amount is the final price.
Can I book a ride for someone else?
Yes. In your details, enter the passenger’s name and phone number, and your own email address: the driver then calls the passenger, and you get the confirmation with the tracking link, which you can forward. Neither of you needs an account.
What if I left something in the taxi?
Report it with your ride, up to 30 days afterwards: in the app under Help, or, if you booked without an account, through Help on your tracking link, even if it has expired. Choose "Left something in the car" and say what you have lost. Your report goes to whoever dispatched the ride, and you read the reply with your report; as a guest you also get it by email.
Can I reserve a taxi in advance in Amsterdam?
Yes, and for a flight, an appointment or an early departure that is wiser than waiting to see. You give the time you want to be picked up and the ride is fixed; you see the price before you confirm. Reserving and ordering are the same form here, with the same drivers and the same rates.
How far in advance can I book a taxi?
You can book up to 180 days ahead, and at the other end a few minutes is enough. If you give a pick-up time less than 20 minutes away, the form treats it as a ride for now and it goes straight to the dispatcher, who picks a driver nearby; further ahead it is scheduled and stays reserved until a driver is assigned to it. The form does not accept a ride further in the future than that limit. For luxury there is a separate minimum of 6 hours, because those cars are scheduled rather than driving around.
What does a taxi ride in Amsterdam cost?
That depends on the distance, the time and the vehicle, and the taxi company that drives sets its own rate. What is fixed is the ceiling: for metered rides the government sets maximum fares, and they are on our page about taxis in Amsterdam, with worked examples. If you book in advance, you see the amount before you confirm.
Which is cheaper, a taxi or a ride through an app?
It differs from moment to moment, and that is the honest answer rather than a way of dodging the question. A metered ride has a legal ceiling that does not move with demand; an app price does move with it, so it can come out lower on a quiet afternoon and higher when it rains at closing time. A fixed price agreed in advance removes that uncertainty altogether.
What is a good alternative to Uber in Amsterdam?
There are four, and which fits best depends on what matters to you. A taxi from the rank or on the street: off straight away, on the meter and so with the risk of traffic jams. Calling a taxi company: you speak to a person, and you can agree a price in advance. Public transport: cheaper per person, less handy with suitcases. And a booking platform like this one, where you see the price before you confirm and it does not change after that. So we are one of those alternatives ourselves; what sets us apart is that the amount is fixed and that you follow the driver live.
Is WellTransfers a taxi company itself?
No. WellTransfers is the network in which taxi companies, dispatchers and independent drivers share rides with each other. The transport is carried out by the connected companies and drivers.
